happy madness day! i want to provide some updates on tronbot 0.5 revision and tronbot zero.

more specifically, i want to talk about the backgrounds. for a long while now, i've been using blender and its respective "freestyle" addon to produce backgrounds. this is probably obvious from the jump in background quality from my old works to the part i made for the dog.fla remake collab.

The Bar, TronBot ZERO, in Blender. The rectangle that's to the left is for scale.

being able to use blender to make your backgrounds allows you to not have to worry about messing up perspective, and it gives you more freedom to do whatever you want. when using blender to make your backgrounds, the only limitation is how good you are with 3d software.

The Bar, TronBot ZERO, in Adobe Animate. Note that all people were removed from the scene for this image so that you can more clearly see the actual background.

it also allows you to animate in 3d, which can lead to animated backgrounds or entire sequences that are 3d.

A frame from the intro sequence, TronBot 0.5 Revision. Note that the lines of the below road being visible is an artstyle choice, to make an allusion towards the instability of a robots' operating system. More specifically, one that was made in just a matter of months. TronBot itself is the one driving the van on the upper highway.

good man SolidP made an excellent, more verbose document on how to put blender backgrounds into flash, which you can read here.

i believe that madness animators should move more towards 3d backgrounds, as they open up an entire new zone of background production. an example being, if you make your background in 3d, then all you need to do to make new angles of it is just move the camera in blender; as opposed to redrawing the entire thing from scratch.

Carnage, TronBot 0.5 Revision. This background was also originally 3D. Shoutouts to Doug.

creating the backgrounds in 3d, at least in my experience, can actually be faster. try it out!

that's all for now. see you soon!
